ROB MARTIN

OPCOM CHAIR 2023, Rotary Club of Burlington, District 5050

You are about to embark on a journey that will help prepare you to guide the course of Your Rotary Club for the years 2023-2024.

It is a both a challenging and exciting path that can influence what path your Club takes and can make a substantial difference in your community and our world. You may learn things about yourself in the role of leader among other community leaders.

At Pacific Northwest Presidents- Elect Training we are looking forward to being a part of your preparation for an inspiring year as your Club’s President.

Pacific Northwest Presidents-Elect Training is one of the most highly regarded training programs in the Rotary World. This year we are especially excited to welcome District 5400 to the other 9 Districts throughout the Pacific Northwest which make up this organization. Clubs from northern California up to Alaska, from Idaho to Vancouver Island, will all gather to learn, share and grow together.

The last two years brought many challenges to us all including our Rotary Clubs.  Some Clubs have had substantial difficulties during Covid but many Clubs have grown and are thriving in spite of the difficulty. Rotary has made good use of Zoom, and that has allowed for greater reach and even more involvement across the world, but everyone is looking forward to our in-person experience!

PETS is February 17–19, and registration will open on December 1st 2022. We expect a full Hotel and I highly encourage you to register as soon after the 15th as you can, to get rooms at the Doubletree. You must register by January 30th to be able to attend our PETS. If we run short of rooms you will be assigned to another nearby hotel.

Your registration will ensure that you are signed up for the January sessions which will be on-line. These will enhance your learning in the priority sessions in February at the Doubletree Hotel and Conference Center in Seatac, Washington.

The Curriculum Design and Facilitator Teams as well as District Training teams are already busy incorporating lessons learned from last year to streamline the interactive sessions and the Plenary Teams is putting together a speaker series that will inspire you as well as give you opportunities for fellowship with the other Presidents Elect in the Pacific Northwest areas.

Being selected to lead your Club is an honor and will give you many great experiences.  We are developing a program that we feel will make the best use of your time and deliver to you not only essential information to help you lead your club, but opportunities for you to network with fellow Presidents-Elect and Rotary International and District Leaders.

If there is one thing we have learned through the Covid Pandemic it is to be flexible and open to change. Please visit the PNWPETS.org website often to find out about the program as it develops.

Registration, schedule for the online sessions, speaker lists, and more will be there. It is a new website which is easy to navigate and will be helpful in answering your questions.

The entire Pacific Northwest PETS OPERATING COMMITTEE is here to make your experience the best it can be.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us. We are here to Serve you.

Northwest PETS Seminar Covid Guidelines

In the interest of keeping everyone that comes to Seattle in February safe and healthy, we have some suggested Covid 19 protocols.  We now know that COVID-19 is here to stay for the foreseeable future and it is important to remind everyone who attends Pacific Northwest PETS of the things we can do to keep everyone safe.

We will follow the Washington State Department of Health Guidelines and will update our Covid-19 guidelines as those are updated.

COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are the number one defense against infection and serious illness.  Persons in attendance are strongly advised to get boosted for the Omicron variants.  We will not be asking for proof of vaccinations at PETS, however.

We know that wearing masks, especially N-95 masks go a long way to keep everyone safe.  With the Covid-19 infection rates dropping as they have most people have stopped wearing masks.  If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask during PETS please do so.

If you are Immunocompromised, you may want to discuss your attendance with your healthcare provider and your District Governor-Elect.

If you feel ill with any of the symptoms of Covid-19 we ask that you not attend PETS to avoid the possibility of infecting others.  If you have had Covid-19 symptoms or test positive in the days immediately before PETS (February 12-16, 2023) that you have two negative Covid test results on consecutive days before attending.

We appreciate everyone following these best practices we will have a safe and healthy meeting February 17-19, 2023.  We cannot wait to see everyone!  Pacific Northwest PETS will be filled with lots of Rotary knowledge and will help make the Club Presidency a great experience!
